The planning internship program is specifically designed to give students “real-world” planning experience and the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of professional planning practice. The program exposes students to various planning practice tasks and requires them to develop their skills, allowing them to transition easily from their student careers into their professional planning career. The experience of a planning internship allows students to be immediately productive and respected in their chosen planning discipline. Many students who have participated in the planning internship program have been able to secure full-time, professional planning employment with the planning agency where they interned. To receive academic credit, students should register for CMP 4954 or CMP 6954. Internships may be paid or unpaid and require a minimum of 144 hours, under the guidance of a supervisor, and the completion of several practice-oriented assignments.
