Urban Planning Minor

Academic Program Completion Plan for the
Minor in Urban Planning (18 credit hours)

With the successful completion of six undergraduate courses in urban planning, a student from any major at the University of Utah may earn a minor in Urban Planning. This supplementary undergraduate program may be of use to students from a wide variety of disciplines who wish to acquire a base of knowledge about urban planning.

Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.4 or higher to be admitted to the minor. To enter the minor, a student must first seek consultation from the Planning advisor for review and approval of the courses to be used. The student may then request to be coded into the minor. Completion of six courses with a grade of B- or better are required as specified below.

1. All of the following Core Courses (Total 12 credit hours)
CMP 2010 Foundations of Urban Ecology (3 credit hours)
CMP 3100 History & Practice of Planning OR
HONORS 3101 People and Place I (3 credit hours)
CMP 3250 Planning Process & Methods (3 credit hours)
CMP 4260 Planning Law & Administration (3 credit hours)

2. Electives (6 credit hours) Selected from CMP 5000-level classes
